Our Story
A Legacy of Faith and Service

John Knox Presbyterian Church has been part of the Tulsa community since 1951, when a small group of faithful believers saw the need for a new church in southeast Tulsa. With support from the Eastern Oklahoma Presbytery, they held their first worship service in Kendall Hall at the University of Tulsa and soon welcomed 168 charter members.
Our congregation purchased land on East 31st Street, where our church home was built in stages beginning in 1955. Over the decades, we’ve grown in faith, expanded our ministries, and deepened our commitment to worship, service, and community.

“If we accept Christ as teacher, we accept those things in His teaching that appeal to us, and we discard those parts that make us uncomfortable or with which we disagree. On the other hand, if we accept Christ as our Lord, we accept all His teachings and do His will without reservation. We must do His will.”

John Knox has always been mission-minded—helping start new churches, supporting local and global outreach, and welcoming neighbors near and far. We continue that legacy today through partnerships like Neighbors Along the Line, refugee support, and our sister church in Malawi.
Through vibrant worship, meaningful fellowship, and a heart for service, we remain rooted in our vision: Welcome. Embrace Diversity. Do Christ’s Mission.
